Gluten-free pioneer Dr. Schär enters fresh bread market with Glasgow acquisition
Dr. Schär UK – the UK’s No.1 gluten-free brand – has acquired Glasgow based allergen-free, fresh bread manufacturer GDR Food Technology Ltd.
A multidisciplinary team from Dow Schofield Watts advised on the deal, which will enable Dr. Schär to enter the UK fresh bread sector and give it its first UK production plant.
Dr. Schär, which has sites in 11 countries and has its UK headquarters in Warrington, offers a wide range of gluten-free products and food for special medical purposes. Following the deal, GDR’s workforce will remain in place, including Ronnie Stebbings, who will retain his role as Managing Director.

Dow Schofield Watts provided corporate finance and tax advice to Dr. Schär, with the team consisting of Philip Price, Tom Dutton, Tom Faichnie, Melanie Clark and Dave Waddington.
Matt Noon, Elan Iorwerth and Ben Correia de Sousa of Hill Dickinson provided legal advice to Dr Schär.
