Raphael Healthcare, a specialist provider of mental health services for women, has received £6.1m of development capital in a deal valuing the business at £30m.
Raphael was established in Runcorn, Cheshire, by chief executive Arthur Robinson and healthcare entrepreneur and chairman John Lamb.

Both founders will retain equity in the business. They will be joined on the board by RJD’s John Dillon. Alex Hay joins the company as non-executive director.

Raphael was founded in October 2004 and has a 41-bed facility in Newark Nottinghamshire that was opened nearly two years later. The company employs 101 people and is a preferred supplier to Primary Care Trusts in the East Midlands, West Midlands and South West.

RJD plans to expand Raphael by opening new hospitals and has already acquired a site for a new facility.
