The most active legal and financial advisers in the North West mergers and acquisitions market (M&A) so far in 2013 have been revealed in a new report.

Deal values soared by 135 per cent across the first three quarters of the year compared with the first nine months of 2012, the review by Experian showed. But volumes fell by 10 per cent.

Brabners topped the regional legal adviser table by volume with 27 deals closely followed by Gateley with 25.

Meanwhile DWF came third with 19, Squire Sanders was at fourth with 16 and Addleshaw Goddard took the fifth place with 15.

Grant Thornton and Dow Schofield Watts made up the top five.

There was a total of 403 M&A and equity capital market deals in which the North West was involved over the first three quarters of 2013, representing a decline of 10.2 per cent on the 449 in the corresponding period of 2012.

In terms of the overall UK picture, 12.1 per cent of deals featured a North West element.

However, the region contributed a more modest 4 per cent of total value. Deal values fell substantially in the period from £14.9bn to £3.9bn.
