APEM Group expands presence with American acquisition

APEM Group, the environmental consultancy backed by private equity firm WestBridge, opens a new road into the American market by acquiring CSA Ocean Sciences, a US-based marine environmental consultancy business.

This deal will support Stockport-based APEM in establishing a new US hub, creating additional opportunity for them in expanding access to the large and strategically important US environmental services market.

CSA Ocean Sciences brings 115 new colleagues to expand the marine science capabilities of the Group while adding new marine operations services to their client offering globally.

Dow Schofield Watts provided corporate finance advice to APEM, marking this as the third transaction with which they have supported, the latest being their further expansion into Australia.

The deal was advised on by Gregg Pendlington, Alex Odlin, and Ben McKie from our North West corporate finance team.

Leah McGimpsey, CEO of APEM Group and Executive Vice President, Environmental Services Division, Applus+ commented: “We are delighted to welcome CSA Ocean Science to APEM Group. As an existing partner we know well, bringing the capabilities of the Ocean Sciences team together with the 1,500 technical experts in APEM Group, will create a powerhouse in the global environmental consulting sector.

Today also marks a major milestone in the development of APEM Group as we establish a significant footprint in the US to transform our ability to serve clients in North America and other regions globally.

I look forward to seeing the ways in which our combined team can bring our shared client focus and our science and data capabilities to the world’s largest market for environmental services as we expand the breadth of the work we can do for our clients”.

Alex Odlin, Associate Director at Dow Schofield Watts, added: “It was a pleasure to once again support the APEM team on this transformational acquisition and the first under Applus ownership. The acquisition of CSA brings together two businesses who have delivered exceptional growth in their respective markets and establishes a platform for APEM to pursue future growth across North America and globally. We look forward to seeing both businesses continued success“.
